Isa has worked for the last 25 years on the events leading to the Lausanne Treaty, with special focus on the fringes of the Ottoman Empire (Balkans, Gulf, Red Sea/Yemen) and then exploring the consequences of the treaty on these same regions. Currently, Isa has used his access to the League of Nations’ Archives to explore aspects of the Caliphate still at issue for subjects of the former Ottoman Empire until 1924.
