Are you interested in developing new ways of teaching modern Greek and Turkish history?
Lausanne, 24-27 June 2024.
If so, The Lausanne Project (TLP) would like to invite you to join us this June in Switzerland, to brainstorm new ways of helping high school students explore events of a century ago –the Lausanne conference and population exchange – as shared trauma of imperial collapse and dislocation. Successful applicants will join Greek and Turkish colleagues for four days of trans-Aegean encounter, dialogue, reflection and networking. The workshop will bring you face to face with original sources, in the actual buildings where the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne was negotiated and signed.
Founded in 2017, The Lausanne Project is an international network of historians and other scholars interested in the events of 1922-3 and their legacy. Our podcasts and publications are aimed at academic and non-academic audiences, and seek to encourage informed debate around questions of identity, migration, civil society and economic development. With your help, we hope to develop new ways of helping young people come up with their own narratives around Lausanne and its legacy.
The language of the workshop will be English. Flights, accommodation and full board will be provided. The deadline for applications has now passed, but we are always interested in hearing from teachers with whom we might collaborate in future.
