Mushir Husein Kidwai (1878-1937) lived a remarkable life, embodying a unique blend of socialist ideals with theopolitics and nationalism, within the framework of anti-colonial movements. Born into a prominent Muslim family in India, Kidwai was well-educated and deeply influenced by the political currents of his time. His early involvement in the Indian independence movement helped shape his anti-colonial stance, while his travels brought him into contact with various intellectual and political circles, including the Ottoman world and Europe. Kidwai’s efforts to weave Islamism and Muslim nationalism with socialism offer a fascinating glimpse into the permeable boundaries between modern ideologies and an embracing strategy toward religion.
